(Cavegirls Series no. 8)

------------------------------------------------------------------

The thunder grew louder as they neared the crest of the ridge, drowning out all other sound. Preparing herself for the prospect of crossing a raging mountain river, Lt. Kime saw that it was even more complicated. A narrow valley separated her from the temple they had sought, the one that might hold the clue as to how the temporal warp led to this one place in time. Now that Haolbven's troops guarded this side of the portal, the incongruous temple might hold the key to getting back to reality. In a jungle, 129 million years before human evolution, the presence of a man-made structure was a dead giveaway, really; almost as bizzarre as the other woman with her on the cliff... But now, this!

the herd of sauropods... Amargasaurus, she remembered from the briefing, were passing through the gorge. Thousands of them... like the stories that Dawson had related about encountering Pre-Columbian American Bison. Only these 10-meter, 5-tonne elephantine creatures came on like a never-ending stream.

"They will be this many for days!" Flaer-ahi shouted, just barely audible above the echoing rumble. Having guided her this far, and losing the vengeful Haolbven in the swamplands, she trusted the mysterious woman's judgement. But to wait who-knows-how-many days for the migrating herd to pass? And what if those mercernaries managed to find thier trail again?

Another of those ear-splitting screeches split the air, conquering even the sauropodian din. That damnable parrot-lizard thing that followed them everywhere was hooting and bobbing it's head as it studied the herd below.

Flaer-ahi smiled and looked down the cliffside again.

"I think I see what he sees!" she shouted.

Kime stared, uncomprehending, but had no choice to follow as the jungle girl began to climb the hanging vines down to the next ledge below.
